The Brief Guy

Once upon a time, Jesse Griffith wears briefs. That's about the extent to which Jessmo will explain the meaning behind this song. Still, the lyrics here seem to be him describing himself as a concise and direct everyman, while praising a close friend for being able to understand his oft-misunderstood character. As far as the music goes, it's a magical combination of minor seventh chords that create the most latin-oriented song in the TNB repertoire yet, while still being able to catch a breath during funky chorus and jam. Dancers, beware those oddly-placed bars of 3/4 in the intro and outro...

The Brief Guy     (J. Griffith)

No one understands the things I do
Except for maybe you
I try to hide my mind from them
But you can always make amends
And if the thoughts turn out blue
You can always tell Im true
About the days we spent alone
And all those hours on the phone
I can always make or break
The moments which we have to stake
On the grass we sail too much
All our troubles should get lost

Im the one they call a brief guy
Through the fog and under grey skies
Im the one they call a brief guy
No one ever wonders why

The moon is finally flying low
Id like to take a trip below
The surface of the sea which hides
All the treasures from the tides
The hours always went by slow
Finally seemed to overgrow
But now that there is no more
Why should I head back to shore?
I wish upon an evening star
I can only see so far
I wish upon an evening star
How well wander oh so far

Im the one they call a brief guy
Through the fog and under grey skies
Im the one they call a brief guy
No one ever wonders why
